My name is James Chun, and I’m a student who loves taking on challenges and finding ways to grow.

Serving as class president for five years in my Korean elementary school gave me the chance to support my classmates and work together as a team. Outside of school, I enjoy playing chess, making music, and staying active through sports—all of which have helped me develop focus, creativity, and collaboration.

What I care about most is raising awareness about climate change and making a positive impact. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my interests and experiences to a new environment where I can learn and contribute even more.

Challenging myself

I have always been driven by curiosity and a commitment to academic excellence.

As a chess champion, I was able to sharpen my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. I have played chess since I was 4 years old, and competed in renown competitions in South Korea as well as in Canada, including the Olympiad Chess Championship.

These experiences have reinforced my love for strategic reasoning, which I bring to all areas of my studies. I am excited to further immerse myself in rigorous academics while engaging with peers who share my passion for learning.

Leadership

Leadership has been a significant part of my journey, both in and out of the classroom.

Serving as class president for five consecutive years at a fully Korean elementary school gave me invaluable experience in fostering teamwork, building trust, and solving challenges creatively.

Transitioning to an American boarding school was a big change, but it taught me how to adapt, communicate effectively in a new environment, and connect with diverse groups of people. These experiences have shown me that leadership is not just about taking charge but also about listening, learning, and inspiring others to do their best.

My Family

Family has always been a big part of my life and a source of constant support and inspiration. My parents have always encouraged me to pursue my passions and work hard toward my goals, whether it’s in academics, music, or my environmental advocacy.

I also have a younger brother, Chris, who is in 6th grade at Eaglebrook School. Having Chris at the same school has been a great experience. We support each other and share in the challenges and joys of school life.
